The Falklands War, Operation Corporate, Bluff Cove

Bluff Cove

On June 8th, 1982, the British Royal Fleet Auxilaries, RFA Sir Galahad and RFA Sir Tristram, were transporting British troops to an amphibious landing in Bluff Cove, when they were attacked by Argentine Air Force (FAA) Skyhawks.

RFA Sir Galahad was hit by two ot three bombs, and very badly damaged. A flash fire spread across Sir Galahad's loading decks, resulting in the deaths of 48 crew and passengers, and wounding over 150, including Simon Weston. The hulk of RFA Sir Galahad was later towed out to sea and sunk, becoming an official war grave.

Additionally, two men were killed aboard RFA Sir Tristram when it was strafed, and another six on a small landing craft from HMS Fearless which was hit by rocket fire.
