1892 Onyx Depot Ship HMS Onyx launched
1926 Otway Submarine HMS Otway launched
1944 Solent Submarine HMS Solent completed
1971 Swiftsure Submarine HMS Swiftsure launched
1766 First submarine attack During the Revolutionary War, the American submersible craft Turtle attempts to attach a time bomb to the hull of British Admiral Richard Howe's flagship Eagle in New York Harbor. It was the first use of a submarine in warfare.
1838 Grace Darling Grace Darling, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, made her famous rescue of the crew of the Forfarshire, which was shipwrecked, near the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast
1941 HMS Thunderbolt HMS Thunderbolt torpedoes and sinks the Italian merchant Sirena about 50 miles west of Benghasi, Libya.
1942 HMS Ultimatum HMS Ultimatum fires four torpedoes against the Italian merchant Luciano Manara in the central Mediterranean about 45 nautical miles south-west of Schiza Island, Greece. All torpedoes fired missed.
1943 HMS Shakespeare HMS Shakespeare torpedoes and sinks the Italian submarine Velella about 18 nautical miles east of Licosa Island, south of Salerno, Italy. There were no survivors.
1977 HMS Trafalgar Ordered from Vickers, Barrow
