Argentina - More Srtikes over wages

A province teachers to continue strike next week

Lessons were still suspended in many BA province classrooms due to the inability for teachers´ unions and the province government to reach a wage deal.

Teachers’ unions in Buenos Aires province will continue to strike next week, after wage negotiations with the province's Government failed during a meeting today. The beginning of the school year remains on hold for thousands of children.

The teachers' union sticked to their initial demand of a minimum monthly wage of 3,100 pesos, but the meeting was finally postponed as they couldn't reach a deal.

Teachers in the province completed a 48-72 hour strike on what should have been the first week back to school after the summer holidays. The union already stated that should there not be an agreement today; another 72-hour strike was already approved.

Earlier this week, province cabinet chief Alberto PĂ©rez considered that “it’ll be difficult to change our offer,” due to the fact that it broke the planned budget set by Daniel Scioli’s government.
