Large suicide blast near NATO’s Afghanistan headquarters
A suicide bomber set off a large blast near the headquarters of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul during celebrations on Saturday. The NATO office is in a heavily guarded quarter of the city reserved for diplomatic functions.
The celebrations were meant to mark the 11th anniversary Ahmad Shah Massoud, a local hero who had fought against the soviets and the Taliban. The Kabul chief of police says the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber. Press TV reported six casualties.
"We are on lockdown while we try get more details on the explosion," an ISAF spokeswoman said, as reported by Reuters. A number of casualties have been reported by different news agencies.
