09/01/1906 - USS B-2 Cuttlefish (SS 11) is launched
09/01/1920 - USS S-5 (SS-110) Experiences massive flooding via the main induction and sinks in 175 feet of water off the Delaware Coast. Crew manages to raise stern of the 231 foot long boat to a point where the tiller room in the stern is above surface. In a superhuman effort over 30 hours, they drill and cut a small hole in the pressure hull, summon a passing freighter who aids in cutting a larger hole. All 40 men escape.

09/02/1945 - Surrender documents ending hostilites in the Pacific War are signed in Tokyo Bay. Present at the ceremony is the tender Proteus and the submarines Archerfish, Cavalla, Gato, Haddo, Hake, Muskalung, Pilotfish, Razorback, Runner, Segundo, Seacat and Tigrone. U. S. submarines have sunk 5 million tons of Japanese naval and merchant shipping at a loss of 52 U. S. submarines and more than 3,500 valiant men.
