President Vladimir Putin will make a working visit to Arkhangelsk region on July 30 where he will attend the ceremony of laying the strategic nuclear submarine Knyaz Vladimir at Sevmash shipyard.
The Kremlin press service reported on Sunday that at Sevmash he will hold a conference on the implementation of the state program of armaments as far as naval supplies are concerned.
Sevmash is Russia's only shipyard to make nuclear submarines. So far it has delivered 128 nuclear submarines. Currently it is building Vladimir Monomakh and Kazan nuclear submarines and preparing to commission the lead ship of a new generation of submarines Yury Dolgoruky.
Knyaz Vladimir of the Borei-A project will belong to the fourth generation of strategic nuclear submarines.
Putin has been at Sevmash five times: for the first time in December 2001 as the president and later as the prime minister.
The president is also due to meet participants in an expedition of the Russian Geographical Society taking off from Arkhangelsk to polluted areas of Franz Joseph Land. Putin visited the archipelago in April 2010 where he put forward the idea of organizing such an expedition.
As part of the project the evaluation of pollution at former defense sites, the airdrome, in particular was launched in 2011. Now over 100 participants in the expedition will start clearing the territories of Alexandra Land and Hooker Island.
Some 60,000 barrels of fuel and over 2.5 tonnes of lubricants are to be removed and some 8,000 tonnes of metal scrap handled with equipment specially delivered to the area. The cleared territories will be reclaimed. The effort will continue until October and resume in 2013
