Three killed, 8 injured in hand-grenade blast in Serbia

­Serbian police say three people have been killed and eight injured in a hand-grenade blast at a nightclub in a village north of Belgrade. Serbia's state TV says a man activated the grenade at the entrance to the club early Sunday. The man reportedly was angry because he and three of his friends were refused entry by the club's security. He and one of his friends were killed in the blast. About 150 people were inside.

North Nigeria church blast kills at least 12

­At least 12 people were killed when a bomb exploded in a church on the outskirts of Nigeria's city of Bauchi on Sunday, Reuters reports. Police said the blast was triggered by a suicide bomber, according to the AFP news agency. A spokesman for Nigeria's Federal Emergency Management Agency confirmed the explosion, but gave no details. The blast comes as Nigeria faces a growing wave of sectarian violence carried out by a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram.

1.5 mln euro burnt in Hamburg clashes

­Police report Saturday clashes between the supporters and opponents of the neo-Nazi movement resulted in 1.5 million euro in damage. The leftists erected barricades of trash bins and set them ablaze to stop their rivals from passing. Cars, including police vehicles were also set on fire, with stones thrown at police. Over 700 people have been detained. Some 19 police officers were reported to have been injured.

Early voting starts in 2nd round of Egypt’s presidential election

­Some 586,000 Egyptians living abroad are starting to vote on Sunday to elect the country’s next president. Former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq is pitted against Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Mursi in the second round of the election. The general population in Egypt will cast their ballots on June 16 and 17, with the final results expected on June 21.

One killed in Toronto shopping mall shooting

­One person was killed and seven others injured in a shooting that sparked mass panic at central Toronto's Eaton Centre. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday around 6:30 pm. Two wounded people are in critical condition – one of them has life-threatening injuries. Police say the shooter still remains at large.

Dozens storm Mubarak ally’s HQ

­Dozens of young Egyptians stormed the headquarters of presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq early Sunday, Al-Ahram news website reports. This comes after ousted leader Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison earlier on Saturday. Shafiq served as Air Force chief and prime minister under the former regime. The attackers destroyed all the contents of the headquarters, including furniture and computer devices. It was the second attack on Shafiq's headquarters in the past few days. He is now one of the main contenders for the country’s top job which angers many Egyptians who view him as a symbol of the deposed regime.

Tens of thousands gather in London to mark queen's 60 years in power

­Tens of thousands have gathered in London's Hyde Park, dressed in royal-themed costumes, to launch Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The 86-year-old monarch chose the Epsom Derby as the starting point for marking her 60 years on the throne. Festivities will last four days with the high point on Sunday – a river pageant on the Thames. The royal barge will carry the queen as she leads a flotilla of more than a thousand boats – the biggest river gathering for 350 years.

US drone attack kills two suspected militants in Pakistan

­An American drone fired two missiles at a motorbike in northwest Pakistan, killing two suspected militants. The incident happened on Saturday near the town of Wana in South Waziristan, one of seven districts in Pakistan's tribal region. It was the 19th drone strike in Pakistan this year. The continuing strikes have complicated negotiations between Islamabad and Washington over reopening supply routes through the country to NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Seven killed in clashes in Lebanon

­Armed clashes have killed seven people and injured 30 others in northern Lebanon. The Saturday violence is further proof that Syria's conflict is encroaching into its neighbor – with fighting between supporters and opponents of President Assad. Gun and rocket fire forced some residents to flee to safety, while Lebanese troops were deployed to calm the situation.
