Four arrested with hallucinogens near Groton base

Four Rhode Island residents have been arrested as part of a joint investigation by state, local and Navy authorities into the sale of hallucinogenic drugs near the U.S. Submarine Base.

Groton Lt. John Varone said officers and special agents seized over two ounces of the drug MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and over 100 doses of LSD on Thursday from 20-year-old Ashton Knudsen, of Charlestown, and three Pawtucket residents, 24-year-old Joshua Zuckerman, 23-year-old Travis Haught and 18-year-old Cheyenne Collis.

None of the four are in the Navy. But Varone said the arrests are connected to drug-possession charges filed recently against several sailors assigned to the sub base and others living in Navy housing.

“They were attempting to make a delivery of a large quantity of drugs to a residence in Navy housing,’’ Varone said.

All four face conspiracy charges. Haught is the only one of the four to be charged with possession of the hallucinogens and possession with intent to sell. Knudsen also is charged as an accessory.

Knudsen and Haught were being held in lieu of $75,000 bond. Bond for Zuckerman and Collins was set at $25,000 each.

The four were all being held Friday pending court appearances and it wasn’t immediately clear if any of the four had a lawyer.

Varone said it’s not clear whether there will be more arrests, but he said the investigation has not been completed.
