Argentine Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman said that there will be no final declaration of the 6th Summit of the Americas, due to the United States veto to the article on Cuba. “There is nothing to be done in a Summit if there is a veto from one country”, he added, as informed by Télam on Saturday.
"Argentina and 32 countries voted to approve the whole declaration”, Timerman said. The incorporation of Cuba was rejected by the United States and also by Canada.
Yesterday the Foreign Ministers of Argentina and Cuba, Timerman and Nicolás Maduro, had expressed their countries´support to Cuba when the meeting of the Summit´s Foreign Ministers wound up.
There was also no consensus on the decriminalization of the consumption of narcotics, proposed by Guatemala and other Central American nations but also opposed by the United States.
