G77 plus China present Argentina with the Malvinas statement denied by the Americas Summit

Representatives from the Group of 77 plus China meeting in Doha, Qatar approved a statement calling on the UK to resume negotiations with Argentina regarding the sovereignty of the Malvinas question, according to a release from the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
The statement was posted in the Argentine Foreign Ministry site

According to the release the document was signed unanimously by the 130 countries plus China that are participating at the United Nations XIII conference on Trade and Development currently taking place at Doha.

Argentina was expecting a similar statement from the recent Summit of the Americas in Colombia, but the initiative failed given the opposition of the US and Canada to include the issue in support of Argentina in the final declaration.

“We reaffirm the need for the governments of Argentina and the UK to resume negotiations in conformity with the principles and objectives or the UN charter and the pertinent resolutions from the General Assembly, so as to find as soon as possible a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute referred to the ‘ ‘Malvinas question’ and the need for both sides to abstain from adopting decisions that would mean the introduction of unilateral modifications to the situation while the Islands go through the process recommended by the General Assembly”.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Malvinas war when Argentine forces invaded the Falklands and occupied them for 74 days until they surrendered and were ousted by a British task force. Argentina has increased diplomatic pressure on the issue in all world forums and opportunities.
