November 1st - On This Date - USN Submarine Service




1918 - Keel is laid for the USS S-24 (SS 129)
1941 - USS Drum (SS 228) is Commissioned
1941 - Keel is laid for the USS Hake (SS 256)
1943 - Keel is laid for the USS Sea Dog (SS 401)
1944 - USS Lionfish (SS 298) is Commissioned
1944 - USS Salmon (SS 182) takes a terrific pounding from Japanese ASW forces, giving as good as she received. She limps back to Pearl Harbor with damage so bad she is retired, her crew transferred to USS Stickleback.
1946 - USS Redfin (SS 272) is Decommissioned
1947 - USS Plaice (SS 390) is Decommissioned
1957 - Keel is laid for the USS George Washington (SSBN 598)
1958 - Keel is laid for the USS Abraham Lincoln (SSBN 602)
1969 - USS Sablefish (SS 303) is Decommissioned
1904 - In 1902 the USS Adder (SS-3) is equipped with an 8 foot non-rotating periscope. The first US submarine to have a periscope.
