Barak: Israel Preparing to Hit Syria, if Needed

Israel is preparing for a possible military intervention in Syria in case the Syrian government gives rockets or chemical weapons to Hezbollah, stated Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak.

"I have ordered to the army to boost intelligence preparedness and to be ready to consider carrying on an operation," said Barak in an interview for the Kanal 10 TV.

The situation in Syria is the tensest since unrest against the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad started early 2011, with heavy fighting now going on in capital Damascus.

At the same time, Wednesday a suicide bombing in the Bulgarian city of Burgas claimed the lives of 5 Israeli tourists and their Bulgarian driver.

The Israeli government and US media have consistently alleged that Hezbollah and Iran are behind the attack.
