The Thai naval research & development team showed off it's latest powerful anti submarine mines: the MI9 and MI 11 models. The detonation test took place in the Sattahip bay area.
Rear Admiral Leurchai Commander of the Mine Squadron and his research team brought two new naval mines each containing 50 kg of highly explosive TNT onboard a navy vessel for the test.
The mines were detonated one by one after being dropped 30 nautical miles from the shore at a depth of 20 metres.
The experiment was successful. Both of the mines exploded shooting up a 30 meter high white fountain of sea water.
Rear Admiral Luerchai Ruddit said that, the project that was the latest in the strategic arsenal against enemy submarine threat.
The new anti submarine mine system MI9 and MI11 is equipped with automatic depth control both by mechanical and electronic means.
Inside the mine there is a trigger, TNT expolisives, a bomb fuse and a transmitter. The mines are entirely designed and manufactured in the Kingdom of Thailand.
