Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has pledged that he will ‘thrash’ the opposition candidate Henrique Capriles and win the October presidential elections with a landslide victory.

Chavez on Wednesday accused Capriles of representing the interests of Venezuela's rich. He called the opposition leader part of the South American country's bourgeois class.

"The bourgeoisie have their candidate -- the candidate of the anti-fatherland, of capitalism, of the Yankees. We are going to thrash that bourgeoisie," Chavez said in an address to the parliament.

He also scoffed at his electoral rivals for imitating him to attract voters.

"Do you want to look like, Chavez, bourgeoisie? It doesn't suit you," he mocked, adding, "You should take advantage of carnival and dress up like Chavez for a few days."

Capriles, the 39-year-old state governor of Miranda province, won the country's first ever opposition primary on Sunday, which anticipates a potentially competitive presidential election in Venezuela.

The opposition candidate, who is from a wealthy family in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, has described himself as a center-left ‘progressive.’

Many observers, however, believe that Chavez will emerge as the winner of the next presidential elections in the Latin American country and remain in office for another six years.
