The Russian Foreign Ministry says NATO's inauguration of a missile detection system in Turkey justifies the measures the Russian President vowed to take in response to continued deployment of the European Anti-Ballistic Missile system, which includes the Turkish radar.
In November, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated a number of measures Russia would take in response to the system's deployment. The measures include the installation of an analogous system in Russia's Kaliningrad Region, the deployment of “Iskander” rocket systems and the abandonment of the START treaty.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has also spoken out against the deployment of the ABM system in Poland and Romania, saying doing so could undermine global stability.
