January 13th - On This Date - US Navy Submarine Service

1943 - USS SEARAVEN (SS-196) used for the first time what was to become a standard tactic for submarines, the "end around".

1973 - PCU PARCHE (SSN-683) launched at Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation, Pascagoula, MS.

1995 - USS BATON ROUGE (SSN-689) decommissioned and simultaneously struck from the Naval Vessel Register. She became the first SSN-688 class submarine to be decommissioned. Units of this class were still under construction at the time.

2002 - USS GREENEVILLE (SSN-772) waited for a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) from USS Lake Champlain (CG-57) to maneuver into position so it could unload supplies and personnel. GREENEVILLE was surfaced to receive food, supplies and personnel from Champlain. The ships were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom
